“Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.”

GOING DEEPER: TYPE 7 & STEP TWO
↓
For those who have already worked Step Two, this deeper exploration invites you to notice how quickly the mind moves toward the next option, the next plan, or the next bright idea. For Type 7s, belief in a Higher Power often exists alongside a constant urge to stay upbeat, entertained, or unburdened. Going deeper means allowing restoration to come not through escape or optimism, but through presence, patience, and trust.
1) Move From Intellectual Belief to Embodied Trust
Type 7s may believe that a Higher Power can restore them, yet still live primarily in anticipation — planning, reframing, or looking ahead to avoid discomfort. Going deeper means letting belief settle into the body, where trust feels like staying, breathing, and allowing the present moment to be enough.
- Deeper Reflection: “Where do I move away from discomfort instead of allowing myself to feel supported right where I am?”
2) Transform Escape Into Relationship
For Type 7s, escape can quietly replace relationship — movement replaces connection, and possibility replaces presence. Going deeper means allowing relationship with your Higher Power that does not require positivity, enthusiasm, or forward momentum. You are met even when nothing feels fun or exciting.
- Practice: Sit still for a few minutes without distraction. When the urge to move on arises, gently notice it and return to your breath.
3) Healing the Wound of Being Trapped in Pain
Many Type 7s carry a deep fear that if they slow down, they will be overwhelmed by pain, boredom, or limitation. This wound often fuels food behaviors used for stimulation or relief. The deeper work of Step Two is allowing your Higher Power to heal this fear — restoring sanity by showing you that pain can be felt without being permanent.
- Inquiry: “What part of me still believes that slowing down will trap me in suffering?”
4) Trust as a Form of Freedom
For Type 7s, trust becomes a new experience of freedom. Instead of freedom through options or escape, you begin to trust that staying present brings depth, peace, and genuine joy. This trust restores sanity by replacing constant seeking with grounded contentment.
- Integration Prompt: “This week, where can I practice staying present — trusting that freedom can be found right here?”
Summary of Going Deeper:
For Type 7s, deeper Step Two work is not about staying positive.
It is about staying present.
As you allow a Power greater than yourself to meet you in stillness and simplicity, sanity returns — not as endless excitement, but as freedom, peace, and quiet joy.
If this feels too deep right now, that’s okay.
