STEP 2:
“Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.”

GOING DEEPER: TYPE 6 & STEP TWO

For those who have already worked Step Two, this deeper exploration invites you to look closely at the relationship between fear and trust. For Type 6s, belief in a Higher Power often exists alongside doubt, scanning for danger, and a need for reassurance. Going deeper means learning to let trust grow quietly, even when certainty is not available.

1) Move From Intellectual Belief to Embodied Trust

Type 6s may believe that a Higher Power can restore them, yet still live in constant vigilance — anticipating problems, rehearsing outcomes, or bracing for what might go wrong. Going deeper means letting belief settle into the body, where trust is experienced as steadiness rather than certainty.

  • Deeper Reflection: “Where do I stay mentally alert instead of allowing myself to feel supported right now?”

2) Transform Fear Into Relationship

For Type 6s, fear can quietly replace relationship — fear becomes the guide instead of connection with a Higher Power. Going deeper means bringing fear into relationship rather than fighting it alone. Your Higher Power becomes someone you can turn toward when anxiety arises, not someone you must believe in perfectly.

  • Practice: When fear shows up, gently say, “I don’t have to solve this right now.” Imagine your Higher Power standing with you rather than ahead of you.

3) Healing the Wound of Feeling Unsafe

Many Type 6s carry a deep belief that the world is unpredictable and support may disappear. This wound often fuels food behaviors aimed at comfort and control. The deeper work of Step Two is allowing your Higher Power to heal this wound — restoring sanity by showing you that safety can exist even without guarantees.

  • Inquiry: “What part of me still believes I must stay anxious to stay safe?”

4) Trust as a Form of Courage

For Type 6s, trust becomes a courageous act. Instead of waiting for certainty or reassurance, you practice staying present and supported even while feeling unsure. This trust restores sanity by replacing constant vigilance with grounded bravery and inner steadiness.

  • Integration Prompt: “This week, where can I practice trusting one small step without needing absolute certainty?”

Summary of Going Deeper:
For Type 6s, deeper Step Two work is not about eliminating fear.
It is about learning to trust alongside it.
As you allow a Power greater than yourself to walk with you through uncertainty, sanity returns — not as constant reassurance, but as courage, resilience, and quiet inner safety.

If this feels too deep right now, that’s okay.
