GOING DEEPER: TYPE 3 & STEP SEVEN
↓
For returning participants: This deeper pass of Step Seven is a chance to celebrate real growth: you can now notice when you slip into performance, image-management, or achievement as safety. Humility for a Type 3 isn’t “doing less” — it’s letting God dissolve the mask so your life becomes guided by truth instead of approval. You are learning that feelings are not obstacles to success; they are the path to the real you.
Gentle reminder: Humility for Type 3 means valuing truth over image.
1) Humility in Motion — From “Prove” to “Be”
Aim: Catch the moment you reach for performance and ask God to return you to presence.
- Deeper Reflection: “Where am I still trying to earn worth through results, praise, or looking ‘put together’?”
- Micro-Prayer (10 seconds): Inhale: “I come home.” Exhale: “God, lead me in truth.”
- Body Cue: Notice speeding up, tightening, or “pushing through.” Soften the jaw and exhale longer than you inhale.
- Celebration cue: If you can see the moment you perform, humility is already happening.
2) Shortcomings as Distorted Gifts
Aim: Name the gift beneath the defense and ask God for its right-sized expression.
Use this grid:
| Shortcoming (Defense) | Gift Underneath | Balanced Expression (with God) |
|---|---|---|
| Overachievement | Drive & competence | Purposeful effort with rest |
| Image-management | Ability to influence | Authentic presence |
| Emotional detachment | Stability under pressure | Courage to feel & stay connected |
| Manipulation for approval | Resourcefulness | Honest, values-based action |
- Prompt: “Which gift is God inviting me to purify into truth this week?”
- Celebration cue: Seeing the gift beneath the distortion is spiritual maturity — not shame.
3) A Type 3 Seventh Step Prayer (Personalizable)
Aim: Offer the mask honestly and ask for transformation.
“Higher Power, I am willing that You have all of me — my gifts and my image. Please remove from me the defense of __________ when it blocks truth and love. Teach me to be informed by my feelings, not driven by approval. Help me live from inner honesty, not outer performance. Make my success meaningful and my heart real. Amen.”
4) Truth Reps — 3 Daily Micro-Practices (3–5 minutes total)
- Morning: Ask, “What am I feeling today?” Name one feeling and one true need before you plan your goals.
- Midday: When you notice performing, pause and ask: “What would honesty do right now?” Choose one small truthful action.
- Evening Examen: Write 3 lines: Where I performed • What I actually felt • Thank You.
- Celebration cue: These reps shift you from image-driven living to God-guided living.
5) Humility with People — Practice Realness
Aim: Let humility become relational: connection without impressing.
- Practice Line: “The truth is, I’m feeling ____ — and I don’t need to be perfect about it.”
- One courageous share this week: Tell a safe person one honest feeling (no polishing, no achievement framing).
- Receiving rep: When someone affirms you, practice saying: “Thank you. I receive that.”
6) “Let God Remove” — Without Forcing Outcomes
Aim: Release outcome management. Notice subtle shifts: less urgency, more rest, more honesty, less comparison.
- Gratitude Scan (30 seconds): Name one moment today you chose truth over image.
- If you relapse into performance: Return to prayer; recommit without self-attack. Humility learns; it doesn’t hustle.
- Celebration cue: Every return to feelings-as-truth is progress — you’re building a life that’s real.
Summary of Going Deeper: Step Seven for Type 3 is the alchemy of achievement and authenticity. You bring willingness; God brings transformation — turning overachievement into purposeful service, image-management into honest presence, emotional detachment into courage to feel, and approval-seeking into inner truth. This is success you can trust — because it’s real.
If this feels too deep right now, that’s okay.
