GOING DEEPER: TYPE 2 & STEP SIX

For returning participants: This deeper pass of Step Six shifts from “trying to be needed” to letting grace meet your own needs. For Type 2s, readiness is not more helping — it’s allowing God to right-size your love so you can give from fullness, not depletion. This page is meant to help you celebrate how far you’ve come: you can now notice when you abandon yourself and choose a new way with God’s help.

Gentle reminder: Step Six is not a self-improvement project. It is a willingness practice. Your love is not the problem — the overuse of self-neglect and approval-seeking is what becomes unmanageable.

1) Name the Grip, Invite the Grace

Aim: Catch the moment your system reaches for pleasing, rescuing, or earning love — and invite God into that moment.

  • Deeper Reflection: “Where do I still believe being needed keeps me safer than God does?”
  • Micro-Prayer (10 seconds): Inhale: “I am loved.” Exhale: “I can receive.”
  • Celebration cue: Noticing self-abandonment is growth. Awareness is readiness beginning.
  • Form Tie-in: On your Readiness Assessment, circle the one pattern that spikes most this week. That’s your laboratory.

2) Defect → Distorted Gift → Balanced Gift

Aim: Reframe “defects” as overgrown strengths that fear amplified — then ask God for the balanced expression.

Use this grid:

Overdone Pattern What It Was Protecting Balanced Expression (with God)
People-pleasing Belonging / love Love with boundaries
Rescuing Fear of rejection Support without control
Self-neglect Avoiding needs/shame Self-care as devotion
Hidden resentment Fear of conflict Truth + tenderness
  • Prompt: On your Defense Analysis, add one line: “Balanced expression I’m asking God for.”
  • Celebration cue: Seeing your pattern without shame means you’re already learning to love yourself.

3) Emotional Readiness Check (Body-Based)

Aim: Let the body tell the truth. Readiness is felt before it is accomplished.

  • Scan: Chest / throat / belly — tight or soft?
  • Label: “Overextended” (giving past capacity) → “Supported” (receiving).
  • Note on the Readiness Form: beside your 1–5 number, jot the body state (e.g., “3 + chest softening”).
  • Celebration cue: Any softening is grace meeting you.

4) One Opposite Action a Day

Aim: Practice willingness in motion. Do one small opposite action to weaken self-neglect and strengthen receiving.

  • Choose one opposite action today: say “no” kindly, ask for help, rest without earning it, or name a need out loud.
  • After-Action Note: “What did I fear would happen? What actually happened?”
  • Celebration cue: One receiving action is courage. You are retraining your heart to be loved without proving.

5) “Willing to be Willing” Prayer

Aim: Name willingness without strain. Let humility be simple.

  • Prayer: “God, I’m willing to be willing. Please turn my giving into love, my pleasing into honesty, and my self-neglect into faithful care.”
  • Celebration cue: Your willingness to receive is a holy milestone.

6) 7-Day Readiness Rhythm

Aim: Build readiness through repetition and care — not perfection.

  • Day 1–2: Notice “earning love” → breathe → micro-prayer.
  • Day 3–4: One opposite action per day; jot impact.
  • Day 5: Share one discovery with sponsor/group.
  • Day 6: Re-rate willingness; note body shift.
  • Day 7: Gratitude list for moments you chose yourself with God.
  • Celebration cue: Progress is measured by truth and receiving — not by being everything to everyone.

Summary of Going Deeper:
Readiness for a Type 2 is the courage to stop earning love and start receiving it. You are not losing your care for others — you’re letting God refine it into love with boundaries. The fact that you can notice self-abandonment and practice one new response is evidence of how far you’ve come.

If this feels too deep right now, that’s okay.
