GOING DEEPER: TYPE 7 & STEP ONE
↓
For those who have already worked Step One, this deeper exploration invites you to revisit powerlessness around escape, distraction, and the drive to stay upbeat. For Type 7s, unmanageability often hides beneath busyness, planning, or the search for the next enjoyable experience. Going deeper is a celebration of your growing capacity to stay present — even when life feels uncomfortable.
1) Beyond Admitting Powerlessness — Living It
Even after admitting powerlessness, Type 7s may still try to manage recovery by staying mentally stimulated, reframing pain quickly, or moving on before feelings settle. Going deeper means practicing relational powerlessness — allowing yourself to stay with what is, without rushing toward relief.
- Deeper Reflection: “Where do I still try to avoid discomfort by staying busy, positive, or distracted instead of staying present?”
2) From Coping to Celebrating Growth
For much of life, optimism and movement were coping strategies — ways to stay free from pain. Going deeper means noticing the places where you can now pause, feel, and remain connected. Step One becomes a celebration of depth, not a loss of joy.
- Practice: Write a short note to yourself beginning with:
“I celebrate that today I am no longer…”
and
“I’m growing into someone who…”
3) Embodied Presence
Powerlessness becomes grounding when you let the body anchor you instead of the mind jumping ahead. This practice helps turn surrender into stillness rather than limitation.
- Notice where your body wants to move or escape.
- Recall a moment when you stayed present and discovered something meaningful.
- Breathe and repeat: “I can stay here and still be okay.”
4) Healthy Separateness
Going deeper means recognizing that you don’t need to entertain, uplift, or rescue others to stay connected. You can allow others to have their own experience without fixing it or lightening it.
- Integration Prompt: “Where this week can I stay present with someone’s discomfort — or my own — without trying to move past it?”
Summary of Going Deeper:
For Type 7s, deeper Step One work is not about losing joy.
It is about learning to live surrendered — with presence, depth, celebration, and trust.
Powerlessness becomes freedom from constant escape and a doorway into richer connection, guided by your Higher Power rather than by avoidance.
If this feels too deep right now, that’s okay.
