Type 8 Lion

STEP 12:
“Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these Steps, we tried to carry this message to compulsive overeaters and to practice these principles in all our affairs.”

GOING DEEPER: TYPE 8 & STEP TWELVE

For returning participants: Step 12 matures when strength and humility walk hand in hand. For Type 8s, this means serving from guidance, not willpower — letting your Higher Power’s current flow through you rather than trying to steer the river.

Gentle reminder: Step 12 is not about doing more. It is about becoming more — more present, more humble, more useful. Your awakening is not a destination; it is a daily practice.

1) Service Through Presence

Aim: Let your presence itself be the gift — before words or action.

  • Listen before leading: Your presence itself can be protection. Offer calm attention more often than advice.
  • Ground before serving: One deep breath and a silent “Guide me” keeps power clean.
  • Share, don’t save: Tell your truth, release the outcome, and let God do the convincing.
  • Celebration cue: The most powerful thing you can offer another person is your grounded, unhurried presence.

2) “Power With” Checklist for 8s

Aim: Transform old patterns of power-over into new patterns of power-with.

Old Pattern (Power Over) Transforming Principle New Pattern (Power With)
Directing others Invitation “Would you like to hear my experience?”
Taking charge of the group Collaboration Ask what role is most helpful today.
Protecting through control Trust Pray → pause → allow others to stand up for themselves.
Doing everything yourself Delegation Empower others to own part of the work.

Celebration cue: Every time you shift from power-over to power-with, you are living your spiritual awakening out loud.

3) Inner Service: Repairing the Inner Protector

Aim: Recognize that your deepest service begins inside yourself.

Your strongest service begins inside. Each time you quiet the inner fighter and choose trust, you serve every person you’ll meet.

Ask daily: “How can I let God’s strength protect me so I can protect others with love, not force?”

Celebration cue: Inner peace is outer service. When you are at rest in God, others feel safe around you.

4) Discernment in Action — 3 Questions Before “Yes”

Aim: Make sure every service commitment flows from love, not compulsion.

  • Am I called to this by love or driven by fear?
  • Will this expand peace or tighten control?
  • Is this mine to do — or mine to pray for?

Pause Line: “Let me pray first and see if this is mine.”

Celebration cue: Saying no to the wrong thing is saying yes to the right thing. Discernment is a spiritual gift.

5) 12th Step Micro-Practices for Type 8s

Aim: Keep Step 12 alive in small, daily moments — not just big service acts.

  • Morning Intention: “Use my strength for good today, not control.”
  • Midday Reset: One slow breath + pray “Your will, not mine.”
  • Evening Reflection: Where did I offer help without attachment? Where did I overreach?

Celebration cue: Small daily acts of surrender add up to a transformed life.

6) Boundaries That Sustain Service

Aim: Serve sustainably so your strength remains a gift, not a burden.

  • Choose roles that fit your energy level today, not yesterday’s capacity.
  • Serve in rotation — step back when it’s time for others to lead.
  • Keep spiritual maintenance first (Steps 10–11 before 12).

Celebration cue: A well-rested, spiritually grounded Type 8 is one of the most powerful forces for good in any room.

7) Advanced Prayer for Step 12 — Type 8

“Higher Power, channel my passion into peaceful purpose. Teach me to lead by listening and to protect through trust. Let my service be steady, humble, and true — a reflection of Your power in me. Amen.”

Celebration cue: This prayer is your compass. When service feels heavy, return to it and let God carry the weight.

Summary of Going Deeper: Mature Step 12 for Type 8s is service without struggle — leadership that listens, power that protects, and strength that rests in God. You no longer drive the mission; you embody it.

If this feels too deep right now, that’s okay.
