STEP 3:
“Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.”

GOING DEEPER: TYPE 8 & STEP THREE
↓
You’ve already made a powerful decision: you’re no longer insisting that strength has to mean control. That matters. And it’s worth celebrating. Going deeper is not about fixing what’s wrong—it’s about honoring how far you’ve come, and letting your surrender become a lived relationship with your Higher Power, especially in the moments when taking charge still feels safer.
1. Move From One Surrender to Constant Surrender:
Type 8s can view “turning it over” as a single decision made in a moment of crisis. Going deeper means realizing that Step Three is a continual rhythm—a willingness to turn over every impulse to dominate, protect, or manage outcomes.
- Deeper Reflection: “When today did I quietly take back control after giving it to my Higher Power? What would it look like to turn it over again right now?”
2. Trust the Flow of Divine Will Instead of Forcing Outcomes:
Step Three asks the Type 8 to move from “I will make it happen” to “I will let it happen.” This deeper work invites patience, allowing divine timing to unfold without interference. The lesson: the universe doesn’t move through domination—it moves through alignment.
- Practice: When you feel the urge to push or control, pause and breathe. Whisper, “I release my grip.” Let your Higher Power show you how surrender moves things forward in its own time.
3. Transform Defiance Into Devotion:
Type 8s often resist authority—even divine authority—because it feels like losing autonomy. Going deeper means reframing surrender as devotion: a conscious, chosen act of love and trust. This transforms obedience into intimacy and control into communion.
- Inquiry: “What if my act of turning it over is not submission, but a love offering to my Higher Power?”
4. Let Love Lead the Way:
At this level, Step Three is no longer about “giving up control”—it’s about giving over to Love. The Higher Power becomes not a commander but a companion, guiding through grace rather than rule. This is where the Type 8’s power softens into compassion and their will becomes aligned with Love’s will.
- Integration Prompt: “Where can I practice leadership through love today—trusting that gentleness is not weakness, but divine power expressed through me?”
Summary of Going Deeper: For Type 8s, going deeper into Step Three means moving from decision to devotion—from surrendering control to living in conscious cooperation with a Higher Power. And you don’t have to do it perfectly to be progressing. Every time you turn it over again, you are proving to yourself that real strength is safe, connected, and guided by Love.
If this feels too deep right now, that’s okay.
