Type 1 Beaver

STEP 10:
“Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.”

GOING DEEPER: TYPE 1 & STEP TEN

For returning participants: Step 10 is where your commitment to goodness becomes grounded compassion. For Type 1s, this means catching the inner critic early, noticing resentment before it builds, and choosing honest, kind repair over perfectionistic self-judgment.

Gentle reminder: You do not have to do this perfectly to grow. Step 10 helps you stay accountable with kindness — toward yourself and toward others.

1) Spot-Check in the Moment

Aim: Notice your inner critic and resentment early and return to honest, compassionate awareness.

  • Watch: Notice when self-criticism, resentment toward others, or the urge to correct and improve rises.
  • Ask: “HP, please remove what blocks serenity and loving awareness right now.”
  • Admit & Repair: When you’ve been harsh, critical, or rigid — toward yourself or others — acknowledge it honestly and offer a gentle correction.
  • Help: Turn outward — where can I bring patience, encouragement, or grace right now?
  • Celebration cue: Catching the inner critic in real time is integrity in action. This is growth happening.

2) Signal • Stop • Swap Tool

Aim: Recognize your patterns early and consciously choose a compassionate response.

Signal Underneath Swap
Inner critic firing, harsh self-judgment Fear of being wrong, defective, or bad Speak to yourself as you would a dear friend: “I am doing my best”
Resentment toward others’ mistakes or imperfection Others not meeting your standards Practice acceptance; redirect focus to your own inventory
Rigidity, insisting on the right way Fear of disorder or wrongness Soften and ask: “Is there another right way here?”

Celebration cue: Each time you swap criticism for compassion, you grow in serenity and true integrity.

3) Evening Review (3–5 minutes)

Aim: End each day with honest, compassionate awareness — not self-condemnation.

  • Did selfishness, dishonesty, resentment, or fear show up?
  • Did I notice self-criticism, judgment of others, or rigidity — and shift it?
  • Who might I owe an apology or living amends tomorrow?
  • Where did I show patience, grace, and honest self-correction?

Celebration cue: This reflection is not judgment — it is integrity. You are actively choosing growth over perfection.

4) Step 10 Prayer — Type 1

“Higher Power, thank You for the integrity and conscience You have placed in me. When my inner critic rises, when resentment builds, or when I demand perfection of myself or others, please soften me. Help me admit my wrongs with honesty and compassion — not self-condemnation. Guide me toward serenity, patience, and grace today. Amen.”

Celebration cue: This prayer aligns your high standards with love — and that is real goodness.
