Step 12: Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these Steps, we tried to carry this message to others, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

For Enneagram Type 7s, Step 12 is about turning restlessness into presence, escape into engagement, and enthusiasm into service. Sevens long for freedom and often seek stimulation to avoid pain or limitation. This Step invites you to rest your joy and hope in your Higher Power and to share the freedom you’ve found with others. Carrying the message becomes not only service to others but also grounding for your own recovery—reminding you that fulfillment comes from presence, not constant possibility-chasing.

Living the Awakening

Your awakening is not about endless options—it’s about discovering deep joy in what is real and present. As you share recovery with others, you strengthen your own freedom from distraction and avoidance. Step 12 teaches 7s that wholeness doesn’t come from escaping discomfort but from embracing both joy and pain with trust in your Higher Power. Living the awakening means practicing presence, grounded service, and honest joy.

Practicing the Principles

  • Presence over distraction: Stay with what is instead of jumping to the next thing.
  • Acceptance over escape: Let discomfort teach you instead of numbing or avoiding it.
  • Gratitude over grasping: Notice the good here and now instead of always chasing more.
  • Freedom with responsibility: Share your joy and energy in ways that support—not avoid—reality.

Discernment: Pause for Service

Before saying “yes,” pause and ask:

  • “Is this my Higher Power’s will—or my urge to avoid discomfort?”
  • “Am I acting from grounded joy—or from a need for escape?”
  • “What is the simplest helpful action I can sustain?”

Quick Scripts (Grounded, Joyful Service)

  • Carrying the message: “I can share how recovery gives me freedom without running from life.”
  • Checking consent: “Would it be helpful if I shared how I stayed present through this step?”
  • Setting limits: “I’m available for a short call today, not a long one.”
  • Grounding joy: “I trust your Higher Power to guide you. I can walk with you, not distract you from the path.”

Reflection Questions

  • How do I know when I’m serving from presence instead of distraction?
  • What service commitment helps me stay grounded instead of scattered?
  • Where am I still tempted to escape instead of face reality with my Higher Power?
  • How can I use my joy to encourage without avoiding pain?

Prayer for Step 12 – Type 7

Higher Power, thank you for awakening me to joy rooted in your presence. When I want to run from discomfort, remind me to stay. When I want endless options, remind me of the gift of this moment. Guide my service so that it flows from grounded joy, not restless escape. Let me carry your hope with presence, freedom, and love. Amen.
