Step 11: Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood God, praying only for knowledge of God’s will for us and the power to carry that out.
For Enneagram Type 5s, Step 11 is about deepening conscious contact with your Higher Power—not through retreating into thought, but through connection and trust. Fives often seek safety in knowledge, privacy, or self-sufficiency, but Step 11 invites you to step out of your head and into God’s presence. Here, prayer becomes less about analyzing and more about opening to God’s guidance. Meditation becomes the quiet place where you release fear of depletion and allow yourself to be nourished, supported, and guided by your Higher Power.
Daily Practices for Step 11
- Morning Prayer: Begin the day by asking: “Higher Power, help me trust Your abundance today. Show me how to receive freely and give without fear.”
- Meditation: Because Fives can overthink, practice meditations that emphasize presence in the body—breathwork, walking meditation, or simple silence. Try Insight Timer, or the Surrender School Step 11 meditation.
- Affirmations/Mantras: These affirmations/mantras counter scarcity and withdrawal, and can be used throughout the day.
- I have enough. I am enough.
- God is my true source of security.
- I can open my heart without losing myself.
- Connection strengthens me rather than drains me.
- I am safe to receive and safe to share.
- My Higher Power provides more than I need.
- I do not need to hoard time, energy, or knowledge.
- Presence with God fills the emptiness I fear.
Journaling / Two-Way Prayer:
Two-Way Prayer is a simple practice of writing to your Higher Power, listening, and then writing what you sense your Higher Power saying back. It helps quiet overthinking and opens you up to your Higher Power’s loving abundance.
- Begin by reading program material and asking a question from your Type 5 lens, such as: “Higher Power, what do You want me to know about trusting Your provision today?” Or ask generally: “Higher Power, what do You want me to know/do right now?”
- Pause, breathe, and notice the difference between analyzing and simply listening. What are you being guided to release or embrace?
- Write whatever words, phrases, or impressions come to you.

A few additional two-way prayer prompts for a type-5 are:
- “Higher Power, how would You like me to rest in Your abundance today?”
- “Where am I mistaking withdrawal for safety?”
- “What truth do You want me to embrace when I feel empty?”
- “What fear of depletion do I need to release to hear Your will?”
Discernment Pause
Before withdrawing, overthinking, or holding back, pause and ask:
- “Is this truly my Higher Power’s will for me, or am I protecting myself out of fear?”
- “Will this action connect me to life—or isolate me further?”
- “What is mine to share, and what can I entrust to God?”
* Discernment means aligning your choices with your Higher Power’s abundance, not with scarcity or self-protection. Over time, it trains you to act from trust instead of fear.
Evening Review (Spiritual Awareness)
Unlike Step 10’s focus on resentments and harms, Step 11’s evening review is about presence and trust. Gently reflect on the following:
- Where did I notice God’s provision today?
- When did I open myself to receive or connect?
- Where did I withdraw or hold back out of fear?
- What guidance did I sense about God’s will for me?
* Close with gratitude: “Thank You, God, for giving me more than enough and reminding me that I am never alone.”
Prayer & Meditation Choices for Type 5s
- Prayer for Trust: “God, free me from fear of depletion. Teach me to rely on Your abundance and open my heart to others.”
- Breath Meditation: Inhale: “I have enough.” Exhale: “I release fear.”
- Gratitude List: Each night, write 3 moments where you received support or connection.
- Body Practices: Stretch or walk to reconnect your mind with your body when you feel withdrawn.
- Silence: Spend 2–3 minutes resting quietly, imagining God filling you with light and life.
Step 11 Prayer for Type 5
Higher Power,
Teach me to rest in Your abundance without fear. Quiet my mind and open my heart to connection. Show me that I am safe to receive and safe to share. Let my prayers be honest, my meditations be grounding, and my heart open to Your will. Amen.
Summary for Type 5
Step 11 for Type 5s is an invitation to move from scarcity to abundance. Through prayer and meditation, you discover that conscious contact with your Higher Power is not about hoarding knowledge or withdrawing, but about trusting God’s provision. You learn to ask for your Higher Power’s will—not for control—and to trust you will receive the power to carry it out. By practicing stillness, discernment, and two-way prayer, you release fear of depletion and rest in the truth that you are safe, supported, and loved. From this trust, your life becomes generous, balanced, and rooted in your Higher Power’s care.
