GOING DEEPER: TYPE 9 & STEP ONE
↓
For those who have already worked Step One, this deeper exploration invites you to revisit powerlessness around numbing, merging, and staying “fine.” For Type 9s, unmanageability often shows up quietly — through disconnection from self, deferred needs, or using food to stay comfortable and avoid inner conflict. Going deeper is a celebration of your growing ability to show up awake, engaged, and present in your own life.
1) Beyond Admitting Powerlessness — Living It
Even after admitting powerlessness, Type 9s may still try to manage recovery by minimizing their struggles, going along with others, or staying disengaged. Going deeper means practicing relational powerlessness — allowing yourself to notice, name, and stay with your own experience.
- Deeper Reflection: “Where do I still disconnect, go numb, or tell myself ‘it’s fine’ instead of fully acknowledging my experience?”
2) From Coping to Celebrating Growth
For much of life, comfort and harmony were coping strategies — ways to avoid inner tension or conflict. Going deeper means noticing the places where you are now more awake, expressive, and self-directed. Step One becomes a celebration of presence, not pressure.
- Practice: Write a short note to yourself beginning with:
“I celebrate that today I am no longer…”
and
“I’m growing into someone who…”
3) Embodied Presence
Powerlessness becomes enlivening when you return to your body and inner signals. This practice helps turn surrender into engagement rather than disappearance.
- Notice where your body feels dull, heavy, or distant.
- Recall a moment when you felt fully awake, grounded, and present.
- Breathe and repeat: “I am here. I matter. I can stay present.”
4) Healthy Separateness
Going deeper means recognizing that connection does not require self-erasure. You can remain connected while honoring your own needs, preferences, and voice.
- Integration Prompt: “Where this week can I stay connected without disappearing or going along automatically?”
Summary of Going Deeper:
For Type 9s, deeper Step One work is not about forcing change.
It is about learning to live surrendered — with presence, self-connection, celebration, and trust.
Powerlessness becomes a doorway into vitality, clarity, and engagement, guided by your Higher Power rather than by avoidance or comfort.
If this feels too deep right now, that’s okay.
