GOING DEEPER: TYPE 7 & STEP SEVEN

For returning participants: This deeper pass of Step Seven invites a new relationship with discomfort — not escaping it, but staying long enough for it to transform you. As a Type 7, humility is not becoming serious or losing joy. Humility is allowing depth. This page supports you in discovering that lasting joy grows through presence, not distraction.

Gentle reminder: You are not being asked to lose joy — you are being invited to mature it.

1) Humility in Limitation — From “More” to “Enough”

Aim: Shift from chasing options to embracing the present moment fully.

  • Deeper Reflection: “Where am I adding more because I’m afraid this isn’t enough?”
  • Micro-Prayer (10 seconds): Inhale: “This moment is enough.” Exhale: “God, help me stay.”
  • Body Cue: Slow your breathing. Feel your feet. Notice the urge to move on — and gently remain.
  • Celebration cue: Staying when you want to run is spiritual courage.

2) Shortcomings as Distorted Gifts

Aim: Name the gift beneath the defense — and ask God to deepen it into wisdom.

Shortcoming (Defense) Gift Underneath What I Ask God to Form
Impulsiveness Enthusiasm + energy Intentional action
Escapism Imagination + optimism Emotional resilience
Overindulgence Love of pleasure Balanced enjoyment
Fear of limitation Desire for freedom Committed depth
  • Prompt: “Which defense is keeping me shallow instead of fulfilled?”
  • Celebration cue: Seeing distraction clearly is already a deepening.

3) A Type 7 Seventh Step Prayer

Aim: Offer your escape patterns honestly — and ask for presence.

“Higher Power, I am willing that You have all of me — even the restless parts that want to move on. Please remove from me the defense of __________ when it blocks depth and peace. Teach me that I can stay present with discomfort and still be safe. Help me discover joy rooted in presence, not escape. I am enough right here. Amen.”

4) Presence Reps — 3 Daily Micro-Practices (3–5 minutes total)

  • Morning: Ask: “Where is depth inviting me today?” Choose one commitment and finish it.
  • Midday: When boredom or restlessness rises, pause before adding stimulation. Take 3 slow breaths.
  • Evening Examen: Write 3 lines: Where I stayed • Where I escaped • Thank You.
  • Celebration cue: Every time you pause before reacting, you are rewiring your recovery.

5) Humility with People — From Excitement to Commitment

Aim: Practice depth in relationships instead of novelty.

  • Practice Line: “I’m choosing to stay with this.”
  • Commitment Check: Before saying yes, ask: “Can I follow through fully?”
  • Repair-ready posture: “I got restless and overcommitted. I’m practicing depth.”

6) Let God Remove — Not Forcing Stillness

Aim: You’re not trying to eliminate energy. You’re learning to anchor it.

  • Notice when you finish what you start.
  • Notice when you tolerate discomfort without escaping.
  • Notice when joy feels calmer and more sustainable.
  • Celebration cue: Depth is the new freedom.

Summary of Going Deeper: Step Seven for Type 7 is the alchemy of distraction into depth. You bring willingness; God matures your enthusiasm into intention, your optimism into resilience, your love of pleasure into balanced joy, and your desire for freedom into committed presence. You are not losing joy — you are discovering that real joy is already here.

If this feels too deep right now, that’s okay.
