STEP 2:
“Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.”

GOING DEEPER: TYPE 5 & STEP TWO

For those who have already worked Step Two, this deeper exploration invites you to notice where understanding has replaced trust. For Type 5s, belief in a Higher Power often exists alongside a strong reliance on thinking, self-sufficiency, and emotional distance. Going deeper means allowing restoration to happen not through insight alone, but through relationship, presence, and gentle engagement with life.

1) Move From Intellectual Belief to Embodied Trust

Type 5s often believe in a Higher Power conceptually, yet still rely on knowledge, preparation, and withdrawal to feel safe. Going deeper means letting belief move out of the mind and into the body — experiencing trust as a felt sense of support rather than an idea to analyze.

  • Deeper Reflection: “Where do I still rely on understanding instead of allowing myself to feel supported or held?”

2) Transform Withdrawal Into Relationship

For Type 5s, withdrawal often replaces relationship — with people and with God. Going deeper means allowing connection that does not require explanation, performance, or full understanding. Your Higher Power becomes someone you can approach without needing to have everything figured out.

  • Practice: Sit quietly and notice your surroundings — sounds, temperature, breath. Let your Higher Power meet you through simple awareness, without commentary.

3) Healing the Wound of Depletion

Many Type 5s carry a deep fear that engagement will lead to exhaustion, invasion, or loss of self. This wound often fuels isolation and food behaviors aimed at self-protection. The deeper work of Step Two is allowing your Higher Power to heal this fear — restoring sanity by showing you that connection does not have to cost you everything.

  • Inquiry: “What part of me still believes that opening up will leave me empty or overwhelmed?”

4) Trust as a Form of Sufficiency

For Type 5s, trust becomes a new experience of sufficiency. Instead of guarding energy or resources, you begin to trust that there is enough — enough support, enough capacity, enough care. This trust restores sanity by replacing scarcity with quiet confidence and grounded presence.

  • Integration Prompt: “This week, where can I gently engage instead of pulling back — trusting that I will not be depleted?”

Summary of Going Deeper:
For Type 5s, deeper Step Two work is not about knowing more.
It is about trusting enough to stay present.
As you allow a Power greater than yourself to meet you beyond thought, sanity returns — not as withdrawal, but as connection, steadiness, and inner sufficiency.

If this feels too deep right now, that’s okay.
