Type 1 Beaver
STEP 2:
“Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.”

GOING DEEPER: TYPE 1 & STEP TWO

For those who have already worked Step Two, this deeper exploration invites you to notice how belief continues to mature. For Type 1s, faith often begins as a principle to live up to — something to practice correctly. Going deeper means allowing belief to soften into trust, and letting restoration come through grace rather than effort.

1) Move From Intellectual Belief to Embodied Trust

Type 1s often believe in a Higher Power but still rely heavily on discipline, rules, and self-correction to feel “okay.” Going deeper means letting belief move from the mind into the body — allowing yourself to feel held, guided, and restored without having to get everything right first.

  • Deeper Reflection: “Where do I still believe the right effort will save me, instead of trusting that restoration can meet me exactly as I am?”

2) Transform Self-Criticism Into Relationship

For Type 1s, the inner critic often replaces relationship with a Higher Power — offering correction instead of compassion. Going deeper means shifting from self-monitoring to connection, allowing your Higher Power to guide you with kindness rather than judgment.

  • Practice: When self-criticism arises, pause and ask:
“What would my Higher Power say to me right now if love — not improvement — was the goal?”

3) Healing the Wound of Being Wrong

Many Type 1s carry a deep fear that they are fundamentally flawed or defective. This wound often fuels perfectionism and rigid self-control. The deeper work of Step Two is allowing a Higher Power to heal this belief — restoring sanity by reminding you that you are already worthy, even while growing.

  • Inquiry: “What part of me still believes I must be fixed before I can be loved or helped?”

4) Trust as a Form of Integrity

For Type 1s, trust becomes a new expression of integrity. Rather than doing what feels “right” out of pressure or fear, you begin to live rightly because you are aligned. Trust restores sanity by replacing rigidity with wisdom and self-punishment with peace.

  • Integration Prompt: “This week, where can I practice trust — not effort — as my highest form of integrity?”

Summary of Going Deeper:
For Type 1s, deeper Step Two work is not about believing more correctly or behaving more perfectly.
It is about allowing trust to replace self-judgment.
As grace becomes your guide, sanity returns — not as flawlessness, but as balance, clarity, and quiet inner peace.

If this feels too deep right now, that’s okay.
