STEP12: Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these Steps, we tried to carry this message to others, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
For Enneagram Type 9s, Step 12 is about awakening from inertia and moving into purposeful presence. Nines often avoid conflict, merge with others, or retreat into comfort rather than act on their truth. In recovery, you’ve discovered that your presence and voice matter. Step 12 invites you to carry the message by showing that serenity is not passive avoidance but active engagement—sharing your Higher Power’s peace, clarity, and guidance in all areas of life.
Living the Awakening
Your awakening is the realization that peace is not the absence of conflict but the presence of truth. Step 12 teaches 9s that their recovery gift is to bring calm, compassion, and perspective while staying awake to their own needs and convictions. Living the awakening means stepping forward, taking up space, and sharing your Higher Power’s love through your words and actions.
Practicing the Principles
- Presence: Show up fully, not just quietly. (Remember to breathe)
- Truth-telling: Speak honestly even when it risks disagreement.
- Action: Take steps toward service rather than retreat into inertia.
- Peace through engagement: Create harmony by facing reality, not avoiding it.

- “Am I stepping forward in truth—or retreating to keep the peace?”
- “What is the simplest helpful action I can sustain?”
