Step 12: Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these Steps, we tried to carry this message to others, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
For Enneagram Type 6s, Step 12 is about turning fear into faith, doubt into trust, and loyalty into service. Sixes long for security and often seek reassurance from people, groups, or authority figures. This Step invites you to rest your security in your Higher Power and to share the hope you’ve found with others. Carrying the message becomes not only service to others but also an anchor for your own recovery—reminding you that courage and guidance come from your Higher Power, not from controlling outcomes or clinging to certainty.
Living the Awakening
Your awakening is not about having all the answers—it’s about experiencing your Higher Power’s faithfulness in your weakness and fear. As you share recovery with others, you strengthen your own faith that you are held, guided, and never alone. Step 12 teaches 6s that certainty is not required; trust grows by showing up with honesty and willingness. Living the awakening means embodying courage, naming truth, and leaning on your Higher Power instead of guarantees.
Practicing the Principles
- Faith over fear: Pause when anxiety rises and return to prayer instead of seeking constant reassurance.
- Trust over control: Allow your Higher Power to guide decisions without needing guarantees first.
- Presence over projection: Notice when you are imagining worst-case scenarios and come back to what is actually true right now.
- Loyalty with freedom: Stay committed to people and principles, but without clinging, becoming invisible, rescuing, or demanding certainty.

Discernment: Pause for Service
Before saying “yes,” pause and ask:
- “Is this my Higher Power’s will—or my fear of losing security?”
- “Am I acting from courage and faith—or from doubt and control?”
- “What is the simplest helpful action I can sustain?”
Quick Scripts (Clean, Courageous Service)
- Carrying the message: “I don’t have all the answers, but I can share how I chose faith over fear.”
- Checking consent: “Would it be helpful if I shared how I worked this step?”
- Setting limits: “I’m available for a 15-minute check-in tonight, not a full call.”
- Releasing control: “I trust your Higher Power to guide you. I can walk with you, but I can’t walk it for you.”
Reflection Questions
- How do I know when I’m serving from faith instead of fear?
- What service commitment helps me feel anchored in my Higher Power?
- Where am I still clinging to certainty instead of trusting my Higher Power’s care?
- How can I encourage others without trying to manage their outcomes?
Prayer for Step 12 – Type 6
Higher Power, thank you for awakening me to your constant presence. When fear tempts me to cling, control, or seek reassurance, remind me that you are my true security. Show me how to carry this message with courage—not as one who has all the answers, but as one who trusts you in the questions. Guide my service so that it flows from faith, not fear, and may my loyalty to you bring hope and safety to others. Amen.

Sharing this truth through service not only strengthens others but also deepens your own recovery. As you carry the message, you embody the loyalty and courage that come from living in your Higher Power’s care—one day at a time.
